    Mrs. Hana Manor Braham

I am a doctoral student at the University of Haifa, within the Mathematics Education Department , under the academic supervision of Dr. Dani Ben Zvi. I’m now in the last year of my doctoral studies.

My research theme is “Sampling articulations among Elementary School Students while Making Informal Statistical Inferences (ISIs) in an Integrated Modeling Approach” (IMA). The setting of the research is the Connections Project (Ben-Zvi et al. 2007), a technology-enhanced and inquiry-based learning environment. An Integrated Modeling Approach (IMA) was developed to guide the design and analysis of the experimental tasks. The purpose of the research is to trace the emergence of young students’ sampling articulations while making ISIs in an IMA.

Three research questions are at the heart of my research:

    1. How can students’ articulations of uncertainty emerge while making ISIs in an IMA?
    2. How can students’ articulations of models and modeling emerge while making ISIs in an IMA?
    3. What is the role of the IMA design of the learning environment in the students’ articulations of sampling?
